An air of respectability.

To remove the stolen tag from an item, you must visit a Trade Authority vendor, sell them the item, and then buy it back from them. This will not work at a Trade Authority Kiosk; it will have to be a vendor in a Trade Authority building or store. A really good place to go will be The Den in the Wolf System, directly to the right of Alpha Centauri on the star map.

Sell them the item, then automatically switch back to the buy screen and go to the bottom “Buy Back” option. If you accidentally exit out of the menu, the item you sold will no longer be in the buy-back option, and you will instead be able to find it in the appropriate section of the vendor’s inventory.

You can also visit any other Trade Authority, such as the one at Jemison down in The Well or on Neon on the main promenade. The good news is that you won’t get picked up on scans just for having stolen goods. That will only apply to contraband. Unfortunately, if you do get arrested for any reason, you will lose your stolen items from your inventory.

Stolen items will be marked by a red chevron in your inventory, making them very easy to spot. You can end up stealing items from people through pickpocketing or if you trespass in areas you are not supposed to be using Digipicks. The best thing about this little method of cleaning stolen goods is that it doesn’t cost a single credit. You can buy the items back for the exact same amount you sold them to the Trade Authority.

Now that you have a solid method of cleaning stolen goods, it’s time to get out there and steal some stuff. You can visit some of the more interesting planets in Starfield to see what you can find or you can just go from mission to mission, stealing whatever you find.
