How to make an Egg Power Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Hatch all your eggs in one basket

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet have streamlined several longstanding mechanics in the franchise. While Pokemon breeding was once handled by Pokemon Day Care buildings in past games, you can breed Pokemon at any time in Generation 9 by hosting a picnic. The past rules of breeding still apply, so the moment you find a Ditto, you’ll be able to make duplicates of any Pokemon you want.

To speed the process along, you’ll absolutely want to make a sandwich with the Egg Power trait. This will not only increase the likelihood you’ll find eggs, but also increase the speed at which eggs hatch. Here’s what you need to do.

Making an Egg Power sandwich

The Egg Power trait is surprisingly common among the premade sandwiches available to you. For instance, the Sweet Jambon-Beurre (#3) gives Egg Power, as does the Jam Sandwich (#12). Any option here will work, you just need to pick which ingredients you’d prefer to use.

If these options are not available to you, you may need to unlock them first. As you defeat Gym Leaders, an NPC in the Every Wich Way sandwich shops will show you different sandwich recipes. Keep checking in with this guy and you should have at least one sandwich with Egg Power by the time you are ready to breed Pokemon. If you lack ingredients, there are shops in Mesagoza that sell most everything you’ll need. The Artisan Bakery, Deli Cioso, and Sure Cans are all located near the Western Pokemon Center and provide a comprehensive spread of ingredients.

That said, if you still lack the ability to get Egg Power, you can get premade food with the perk enabled. The easiest spot to visit is also near the Western Pokemon Center in Mesagoza. The Salisbury Steak with Fried Fixings is sold by Barato for a mere 1,900 Pokedollars and has Egg Power listed as its first Meal Power (location pictured above).

Additionally, while making a Sandwich, you can still pull of Egg Power by going into Creative Mode and crafting a sandwich with these ingredients:

  • Apple
  • Banana
  • Basil
  • Jalapeno
  • Kiwi
  • Pineapple
  • Strawberry
  • Watercress
  • Cream Cheese
  • Jam
  • Marmalade
  • Olive Oil
  • Vinegar
  • Whipped Cream

These ingredients activate other perks too, so your mileage may very on what exact sandwich you’ll produce here. There is also the logistical issue of whether you’d ever want to eat a Vinegar, Kiwi, and Whipped Cream sandwich, but hey, all is fair if it gets you Pokemon eggs faster.

How to make an Egg Power 3 sandwich

While it’s easy to put together an Egg Power sandwich at level 1 or 2, you may be curious if an Egg Power 3 sandwich exists. The good news is that it does, in fact, exist. The bad news is that they’re probably not worth your while to make.

To make an Egg Power sandwich, you’ll need to obtain Herba Mystica. These come in five different varieties, and they all drop from Tera Raids at 5-Star difficulty or higher. The drop rates for these are slight, as you run a ten to thirteen percent chance of finding one per victory. Fortunately, Tera Raids are a great source of numerous endgame items. You may gather a stack of these herbs passively as you grind for other materials.

By combining two Herba Mystica with select ingredients, you can manipulate the game’s sandwich algorithm to pop out a Level 3 Egg Power sandwich. For example, the sandwich pictured above was created with one serving of Basil and two servings of Sweet Herba Mystica. That said, I really don’t recommend using Herba Mystica for Egg Power sandwiches. Level 2 Egg Power Sandwiches function nearly as well and only require common ingredients. For example, the Great Marmalade Sandwich is #25 in your recipe book and only needs three basic ingredients to make. The grind for Herba Mystica just isn’t worthwhile to hatch eggs slightly faster.

Herba Mystica are primarily used to make sandwiches that increase the rate you’ll find shiny Pokemon. If you really couldn’t care less about shiny Pokemon, then feel free to use Herba Mystica on these sandwiches. Otherwise, you’d be much better off getting a Pokemon with the Flame Body ability to hatch your eggs faster.
