How to get the Frostbite armor set in Tears of the Kingdom

Let it go

Recommended Videos

Fashion serves an important purpose in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Link needs the bonus effects from different sets for their bonus effects. And he also needs to look good. The Frostbite armor set, thankfully, serves both needs.

While adventuring in the Hebra region, for either the main story quests surrounding Tulin and the Rito Village, or just looking for extra resources, cold is always a factor. The Frostbite set doesn’t necessarily offer cold resistance, like some other outfits do. But it does let you turn the temperature into a weapon.

The Cold Weather Attack bonus lets Link unleash a flurry of ice in cold weather environments with a charge attack. Simply charge up a move, and Link will unleash some ice with it if you have the Frostbite set equipped and you’re in the right environment. (We tested this by heading to Death Mountain and sadly, no, this is not a free ice dispenser for your trip there.)

The Frostbite armor set, like many other sets, comes in three pieces: the shirttrousers, and headpiece. Each resides in a cave in the Hebra region, so it helps to get a survey of the land with the nearby tower. Here’s where to find each piece.

For the Frostbite Headdress, you’ll want to head to Lake Kilsie Cave, on the north side of Lake Kilsie in the Hebra region. It’s pretty far northwest of the other two locales, but a blast up from the cannon should make it easy.

This will also a relatively easy piece to get, without too much in the way of obstacles. Remember to keep an eye out for the telltale decorations that will tell you a hidden armor shrine is nearby.

Head in, defeat the few enemies in here, and knock down a wall for your reward. We’re already a third of the way towards a full set.

Where to get the Frostbite Shirt in Tears of the Kingdom

This one will require some environmental interaction. You’ll want to head to the Brightcap Cave, southeast of Rito Village and the Lucky Clover Gazette.

If you haven’t completed the quest yet, two sisters should be outside arguing about the glowing mushrooms inside the cave. You can give them 10 brightcaps to kickstart the quest for later.

Otherwise, you’ll need to head inside, take out some foes, and then look for the spiky vines. You’ll need to burn them down; I suggest just tossing a Fire Fruit at them. Save the arrow.

Pick up the shirt from the shrine and we’re almost home.

Where to get the Frostbite Trousers in Tears of the Kingdom

This is the armor piece that will probably give you the most trouble. The Frostbite Trousers are in the Hebra Headspring Cave, east from the local tower and past Sahirow Shrine. You’ll find it flowing into the mountain.

While there are only a few icy Keese to contend with, the water is also freezing and will harm Link if you fall in. You can solve this problem in a few ways. One, you could build a wacky Zonai contraption to get across. That is the popular trend, at least. Or you could stick a fan on one of the floating sheets and try to hover up and over.

If you’ve beaten the regional dungeon, however, you also might have the assistance of a certain pal. And that friend can help you bridge the wide gap between the ice pillars in the center of the pool and the edge, where the treasure lies.

However you solve it, once you’re onto the other side you can grab the pants. Congratulations, that’s the full set! Here is a full map of the region with the pins marking each cave, for easy hunting:

What does the Frostbite armor set do in Tears of the Kingdom?

As mentioned above, the Frostbite armor set has the Cold Weather Attack perk. This means that, if in a low temperature environment, Link can launch freezing blasts with his charged attacks.

Now, a few notes from our initial testing. While the set says it absorbs the cold for the effect, this does not offset cold temperature itself. Meaning, you’ll need to either mix and match the set to keep warm, or consume something that will give you cold resistance.

It’s a trade-off, but if you’re in a place where some extra ice damage could help, it can’t really hurt to try. Plus, it’s a downright fashionable set, all things considered. It’s good to look your best at all times in Tears of the Kingdom.
