How to get the Landerwaffe mount in Final Fantasy XIV

You mecha-dragon taxi has arrived

There are a lot of sought-after mounts in Final Fantasy XIV, and a surprisingly small number of them are two-seaters. However, there is one two-seater that you can now get relatively easily — though at release, it was a pretty difficult one to obtain — the Landerwaffe mount.

Like Kirin, Firebird, and Kamuy of the Ninetails before it, the Landerwaffe mount is the reward for collecting a bunch of other mounts, namely the seven Gwiber mounts offered as rewards from Shadowbringers Extreme Trial. The Landerwaffe was harder to obtain in Shadowbringers, but these Trials are now easy to farm unsynced in Party Finder with a group of other players.

Each Shadowbringers Extreme Trial has a small chance to drop its respective Gwiber Trumpet, which unlocks the Gwiber as a mount. If you’re not that lucky, each successful completion of the duty will reward one Totem for some, while longer fights reward two. At 99 totems, they can be exchanged for the corresponding Gwiber by talking to Fathard in Eulmore (X:10.3, Y:11.8).

You’ll need to complete all of the following level 80 Trials, possibly numerous times each, in order to get the Gwibers you need:

  • Fae Gwiber Trumpet: The Dancing Plague (Extreme)
  • Innocent Gwiber Trumpet: The Crown of the Immaculate (Extreme)
  • Shadow Gwiber Trumpet: The Minstrel’s Ballad: Hades’s Elegy
  • Ruby Gwiber Trumpet: Cinder Drift (Extreme)
  • Gwiber of Light Trumpet: The Seat of Sacrifice (Extreme)
  • Emerald Gwiber Trumpet: Castrum Marinum (Extreme)
  • Diamond Gwiber Trumpet: The Cloud Deck (Extreme)

Once you’ve got all of these, you’re one step away from getting your very own mecha-dragon.

Having unlocked all of the Gwibers, head to The Lochs via the Porta Praetoria aetheryte and talk to the Warmachina Fanatic (X:11.5, Y:22.5) to pick up the quest “The Dragon Made”. This quest only consists of two steps, so it’s relatively easy to complete. Head to Azys Lla to find the wyrm-machina in the Alpha Quadrant (X:9.6, Y:13.2), then fly up to the Flagship and use the Landerwaffe Flute at the designated location (X:15.1, Y:22.7).

Now, after the final cutscene, you’ll be in possession of your very own Landerwaffe, some bragging rights, and the ability to transport your friends around if they’re in need of a lift.
