How to get the Albedo Wing in Destiny 2

There’s just one way to get the Albedo Wing during this year’s Dawning event. That’s by completing the “Ice Cold Combat” challenge. To complete the Ice Cold Combat challenge, you need to kill 100 enemies with snowballs. However, while that may sound straightforward enough, it’s not immediately clear what defeating combatants with snowballs means.

It turns out that Bungie literally wants you to kill enemies with snowballs, and there’s only one way to get snowballs in Destiny 2, which is randomly from enemies you’ve defeated. My very unscientific estimate (from getting the Albedo Wing myself) is that around a third of the enemies you kill have the chance of dropping a snowball.

You’ll know when an enemy has dropped one because the snowball icon will appear above it as it sits on the floor. Do note that other players can pick up the snowballs and they will disappear after a short while, so don’t miss your chance.

A snowball works like a lot of other single-use items in Destiny 2. You pick it up, and when you carry it, you’ll switch to the third-person camera. Then, you have to throw it at enemies to kill them. In this sense, it works a little bit like a grenade, and it’s possible to kill multiple bad guys at the same time.

As the Ice Cold Combat challenge descriptor says, you’re able to do this anywhere in Sol, and I chose the European Dead Zone. I recommend heading to the Trostland area of the EDZ, as there are regularly spawning enemies and plenty of patrols to keep you busy.

The area south of the church, pictured above, has groups of enemies regularly spawning and fighting each other. This is the spot where I got most of my snowball kills. Since they’re often so close together, I could regularly get three or more kills with a single snowball. When there’s a break in the ships dropping off new enemies, just activate one of the nearby patrols to keep going.

Using this method, it took me around 30-45 minutes to get enough snowball kills to complete the challenge. When you’re done, collect your reward from the Dawning Event Card by claiming the Ice Cold Combat card.

Your Albedo Wing will now be in your weapon inventory or at the postmaster. Have fun!
