How to get ‘Shiny’ Destiny 2: Into the Light weapons?

It's like pulling a shiny Magic: The Gathering card!

As confused as I personally may be about some of Bungie’s Destiny 2: Into The Light weapon choices, that’s not to say I’m not farming them out like a madman. The Brave weapon variants, in particular, are like shiny foil trading cards, making them particularly coveted and collectable.

Broadly speaking, almost everyone is thrilled with Destiny 2‘s all-new holo-foil Brave weapons. Both the community and some key content creators are raving about these super-rare variants of Into The Light‘s weapons, and it’s not hard to see why that would be the case. With holo-foils, Bungie has successfully captured the unique satisfaction you get when you draw a foil trading card from a booster, or when you find a Shiny Pokémon prowling about.

The rarity of these weapons alone is enough to make them interesting, but with a delightfully shiny and (arguably) distastefully golden skin slapped on top? You’ve got a slam dunk of a drop that is, mechanically not that much different from the regular gun. Getting them is simple, too: Brave holo-foil Destiny 2 weapons are a random chance drop, and they are exceedingly rare.

What are Brave weapons in Destiny 2: Into the Light?

As suggested above, there’s nothing mechanically special about a holo-foil Brave weapon in Destiny 2: Into The Light. It’s just a ridiculously shiny variant of an already snazzy weapon: all the regular Brave weapons come with the same Perk pools and functionality, so you’re not losing out on anything by picking up one of those. Holo-foils, however, come with a unique skin that immediately stands out, and if one drops for you, it’s going to roll two Perk choices in its third and fourth Perk columns. So, really, it’s two weapons in one right off the bat.

If you want the prestige (and the double Perk rolls!) that come with owning a holo-foil Brave armament, but aren’t keen on its ultra-glowy bits, it’s worth remembering that you can switch over to the regular Brave weapon skin whenever you want. As the holo-foil cannot be re-shaded, this is a good alternative, but choosing the regular skin also means disabling the golden glow, so it’s a toss-up.

How to get Brave weapons in Destiny 2?

There doesn’t appear to be a secret trick to getting a Brave weapon. Not yet, at the very least, as Into The Light only came out very recently. Do note, however, that completing each of Arcite 99-40’s Brave Quests will award you with a unique holo-foil Brave weapon: one that has a fixed, curated set of Perks that you cannot switch around.

So, the good news is that simply by picking up all the Brave Quests and completing them will eventually net you a unique holo-foil Brave weapon. The bad news is that these guaranteed rolls might not be as good as holo-foils that you may or may not come across while opening Brave Engrams, and those are well and truly random.

Are Brave weapons a permanent addition to the game?

As with most things Destiny, there is a monkey’s paw aspect to the shiny holo-foil Brave weapons. Notably, these are a timed offering that you will not be able to earn after Destiny 2: The Final Shape comes out. Indeed, this means you’ve got until early June to farm for as many holo-foils as you possibly can, and if you’re particularly unlucky, you may not get a shot at all of them.

I do suggest wrapping up Arcite 99-40’s Brave Quests at the very least: doing so allows you to Attune a particular weapon to boost its drop rate by an extra 50%. The greater the odds of a weapon dropping, the better your chances for it to drop as a holo-foil, so make use of this option while it’s around.
