How to get rid of a criminal record in BitLife

It's not as easy as you'd think.

BitLife lets you do almost anything with your characters’ lives, from starting businesses to pursuing dream jobs. Sometimes, though, your characters will dive into lives of crime. This comes with one main downside: criminal records.

Committing crimes in BitLife automatically sends your character to jail. The criminal record that follows prevents you from adopting pets, pursuing jobs, or sometimes emigrating to other countries. While the usual solution is not committing crimes, challenges often force it upon you, leading to creative solutions for clearing your record.

How to remove your character’s criminal record in BitLife

There are three main ways to get rid of a criminal record in BitLife:

  1. Emigrate to another country.
  2. Use the Get Out of Jail Free card to expunge your record.
  3. Use the Time Machine to travel to the past and avoid getting arrested.

While two of these options require spending real money, there is a roundabout way to remove your criminal record while simultaneously creating a new one in some circumstances. Although it’s generally better to avoid getting one in the first place, below are some tips for removing your character’s record once it appears.

Emigration

The free option you can use is to emigrate to another country. After escaping from jail or living out your character’s sentence, you can go to another country by heading into Activities, Emigrate, and choosing any country you wish. From here, you can use the Golden Passport to select any location you wish or pick from the random list the game gives you, closing and reopening the menu as needed until you find the spot you’re looking for.

However, there’s a major downside—the country’s immigration office has a high chance of saying no if you have a criminal record. Fortunately for our character, you can still get into the country despite this, letting you temporarily live without a criminal record until their authorities find you and send you back to jail. It may not be a permanent way to remove your character’s criminal history, but at least you can wrap up a challenge or two before suffering the consequences of your actions later.

Get Out of Jail Free

What if you want to clear your character’s criminal record and never worry about it again? The first solution involving this is BitLife’s Get Out of Jail Free card. You can purchase this from the in-game marketplace for $8.99 or your regional currency. There’s no way to get it for free unless you participate in BitLife’s promotional events on social media.

The Get Out of Jail Free card lets you instantly escape jail without participating in the usual escape minigame. More importantly, it clears your criminal record, letting you walk out without any negative consequences later.

Time Machine

Your last option is to avoid getting caught by the police altogether by reversing time using the Time Machine. This option also costs money, with the Time Machine available through BitLife’s marketplace.

Unlike the Get Out of Jail Free card, this one doesn’t get you out of jail within the same year or clear your record. Instead, you can use it to travel in time and either not commit any crimes or attempt them again without getting caught. Although this isn’t ideal for challenges that require you to escape prison, like the Convict to Convent challenge, it’s a solid option if your character tries to escape a crime without landing in jail later.

What does removing your character’s criminal record do in BitLife?

A criminal record in BitLife makes it much harder to apply for jobs, adopt a pet, or emigrate to another country. Removing your record will let you do all of the game’s regular activities without any obstacles, at the risk of landing back in jail, depending on your method.

In short, if you’re willing to spend some money on a Time Machine or the Get Out of Jail Free card, you can go to jail and clear your record with no further consequence. Otherwise, you can sneak into another country, have a few years of normal citizenship, and then go back to square one once the authorities find out.
