The primary way to obtain Iridescent Shards is to level up in the game. Leveling takes XP, and XP is earned by simply playing matches. The more you play, the quicker you’ll level up, but there are layers to this as well. Per-match XP is capped at 600 XP, which comes to about 10 minutes of gameplay. If your match goes on for longer, you’re simply wasting time if your only objective is to farm XP.

This means the optimal way to earn as much XP as possible, as quickly as possible, is to play Survivors almost exclusively. You can try hard in the game until you’re near the 10-minute mark and let the Killer, well, kill you and boot you out of the match. Killers will tend to be around for the 10 minutes or even longer, as they cannot quit the game until it’s over. Survivors, however, can—all it takes is sacrifice.

Leveling up isn’t the only way to earn Iridescent Shards. The currency is also awarded to players who’ve signed up for Behaviour’s Stat Tracker, or completed missions in the Free Rift Pass.

The more missions you complete in the latter, the more Shards you’ll get. The Rift Pass resets monthly, just like most battle passes, so make sure you squeeze every bit of Iridescent Shards you can in time.
