Grip is arguably the most important attribute in Cairn as it determines how easy or hard your climb will be.
Extra grip is an additional boost that you can apply during your climb. Ideally, you would want to use the boost while climbing the harder mountains. Unlike almost all other boosts in Cairn, extra grip isn’t obtained from food.
This guide will explain everything you need to know.

How does extra grip work in Cairn
Extra grip determines how many difficult grabs Aava can make before she slips. The boost allows Aava to hold on to surfaces that are usually not grabbable. This can be immensely beneficial as that extra layer of grip will prevent her from falling down.
Moreover, extra grip only works with her hands. Your feet play no role, and you’ll need to balance Aava’s lower limbs carefully. To use extra grip on your climb, you’ll need chalk.

How to use chalk in Cairn
You can use chalk any time, given you already have it. You can use the d-pad to get the chance to apply chalk. Once Aava rubs the chalk on her hands, the Extra Grip boost becomes active immediately.
Naturally, you’re going to need more chalk. The easiest way to do so is to compost with your Climbot. Once you can open the backpack, select what you want to compost. This will make the Climbot start a timer. Once the timer is over, your compost is complete, and the selected item gets converted into chalk.
The best items to choose from will be plastic wrappers from your food. You’ll find these items pretty frequently, so turning them into chalk is pretty great. As an alternative, you can also send other waste materials into compost.
While chalk is pretty easy to make, you have limited space in your bag. Hence, use chalk as and when required. Wasting it early will prevent you from using it when you require it the most.
