How to get Dark Frosting in the Dawning in Destiny 2

I wouldn't put that in a cookie.

Preheat your ovens and put on your aprons, because Destiny 2‘s Dawning is here. This classic event asks you to hunt down ingredients all over the system, such as Dark Frosting, which you use to bake treats for your allies.

Dark Frosting is one of the Dawning’s rare ingredients, meaning you get it depending on how you kill enemies. There’s a litany of those, allowing you to gift some of your favorite NPCs in the entire Sol System. Here’s how you can get this element.

This ingredient has a random chance of dropping by killing enemies with Stasis or Strand damage. Like all Dawning ingredients, it’s not a guaranteed reward, but it is common enough that you shouldn’t have an issue grabbing enough for your baking ventures.

Since it’s a rare ingredient, it can drop alongside other materials. Defeating a target with a Strand sword, for instance, has a chance to give you Dark Frosting and/or Sharp Flavor.

In-universe, Dark Frosting “adds a decadently deep, rich flavor” to your meals, according to its official description. Unsurprisingly, it’s among the least-used of materials, and it only appears in three recipes:

  • Starwort Thins (Elsie Bray/The Exo Stranger)
  • Neomun-Pie (Nimbus)
  • Dark Matter Drizzlers (Dean Rebecca of the Aionians)

If you’re planning on baking a specific cookie—for instance, Dark Matter Drizzlers—we recommend farming the enemy faction that drops the other ingredient you need. Starwort Thins, for instance, require Dark Ether Cane, which drops from Scorn enemies. If you’d like to get on Elsie Bray’s good graces, killing Scorn with Stasis or Strand damage is the way to go. Likewise, to bake Dark Matter Drizzlers, taking down Fallen is a good way to make progress on two fronts at the same time.
