The new Type Soul update brought a lot of new content including the Hollow Essence item which is very important. However, the powerful item is not easy to find if you don’t know where to look. Thankfully, we’ve figured out how to get and use Hollow Essence in Type Soul which you are going to want to do.
How to get Hollow Essence in Type Soul
To obtain Hollow Essence you need to defeat the challenging Bawabawa worm boss. The Bawabawa boss spawns in Hueco Munca, specifically in the back corner next to the black body of water. The Bawabawa boss is on a 1.5-hour spawn timer starting at midnight in-game time. Look at the in-game clock to know when Bawabawa will spawn next. Here are the Bawabawa spawn times:

- 4:30
- 6:00
- 7:30
- 9:00
- 10:30
The Bawabawa boss is a challenging encounter, and we recommend bringing some friends if you aren’t familiar with how to fight him. The colossal worm quickly slithers around the area dealing massive damage to anyone in close range. Here are some tips for taking down the Bawabawa boss:
- Stay at range. The Bawabawa has limited ranged attacks and is almost entirely a melee-ranged boss.
- Utilize ranged attacks that allow you to keep Bawabawa at a distance.
- Bring some friends so someone can draw the aggro of the Bawabawa while you attack from a range. This should be easy since the Bawabawa encounter is an open-world fight, so others can jump in at any time.
Defeating the Bawabawa boss will cause it to drop some of the items from his loot pool. One such item is the Hollow Essence.
What does Hollow Essence do in Type Soul?
When used, Hollow Essence in Type Soul allows the player to reset their Partial Res, and therefore reallocate it, or Full Res as a Hollow. This is the only way to convert your character to a Hollow if you did not pick it when creating your character.
