You can unlock the Corrupted Mantle after defeating the Gore Magala during Chapter 5-2. This fight will be a part of the ‘A World Turned Upside Down’ quest, where you’ll have to face off against Frenzied Monsters. It’ll provide you with the pieces needed for the Artian Armor Set, which requires Frenzy Crystals from this beast. Once you complete Chapter 5-2, an exclamation point will appear at the Smithy station. Speak to Gemma, and you’ll receive the Corrupted Mantle as a reward.

MH Wilds Corrupted Mantle buffs, explained

Equip the Corrupted Mantle from your inventory to gain unique buffs from this item. According to the in-game description, it “decreases health, but increases affinity and weapon performance.” That means you’ll roughly gain a boost of 10% Attack and 30% Affinity for 120 seconds.

Although you’ll lose health with the Corrupted Mantle equipped, you can stop this negative effect by unleashing a flurry of attacks (when the cloak glows). Weapons like the Sword and Shield will also perform a second attack to deal more damage. All in all, this Mantle makes you a devastating attack machine, quickening the pace of monster fights.

You can also use the Corrupted Mantle for high-damaging sneak attacks. This tactic allows you to defeat some large monsters in just a few minutes, perfect for those who want to farm materials quickly. If you want to familiarize yourself with this Mantle, I suggest going to the Training Area first. It’ll help you see how quickly your health bar depletes and what weapons work best.
