How to find rare animals on the Island Sanctuary in Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV

We built a zoo (in Final Fantasy XIV)

The Island Sanctuary isn’t just a respite for weary Final Fantasy XIV players, but also home to a variety of wildlife. These animals can all be lured in, captured, and raised in your own fields at Sanctuary, should you choose, and they range from regular animals to rare beasts.

These rare animals are worth discovering if you want to tend to a thriving ranch in your Island Sanctuary. Alongside looking cool, they provide some extra resources that their more average counterparts do not. So if you want both a deluxe island and some cool animal pals, this guide should help you out a bit.

Requirements for finding a rare animals

A rare animal spawn on the Final Fantasy XIV Island Sanctuary has a set amount of conditions. You’ll need the right weather and time of day (in-game, not your own) for it to even occur. Then, you’ll need the corresponding capture tool to nab the rare creature.

Luckily, plenty of players have gone to work determining when, where, and why these animals spawn the way they do. For our guide, we referenced resources from both the FF XIV Console Games Wiki and the Island Sanctuary-centric Discord, Overseas Casuals.

With those resources in hand, we can make a quick-and-easy table for when and how to catch some rare fur friends. We’ll list them out with the name, location (X,Y), time of day they’re around, any weather conditions, and what size they are. Small animals will need the Makeshift Net, Medium will need a Makeshift Restraint, and Large animals can be caught with a Makeshift Soporific.
