How to fight the Quetzalcoatl in FF7 Rebirth’s Grasslands

Do the chickens have large talons?

If youā€™re pushing through the side quests in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Grasslands or just heavily invested in transmogrification, you might notice that the Windmill Gear requires a Quetzalcoatl talon. Where do you find one?

You wonā€™t find the Quetzalcoatl until you scan the Wetlands Lifespring, which is Expedition Info 2. You can get the Lifespring to appear on the map by activating the Swamplands Tower (Activation Intel 3) in the South of the Grasslands and East of the Abandoned Dock waypoint. You can also just go Southeast from the Abandoned Dock waypoint, and you should eventually catch site of the bird that will lead you to the Lifespring.

Once you scan the Wetlands Lifespring, a marker will appear due South from the highway to Midgar in the Northern Wastelands. Note that even if you go to this spot early, the Quetzalcoatl will not appear until you scan the Wetlands Lifespring.

When you reach the area marker, you need to hold the triangle button to get the Quetzalcoatl to appear.

Obtaining a Quetzalcoatl talon

The Quetzalcoatl is weak to ice magic. Furthermore, in order to pressure it, you merely need to exploit its elemental weakness, so if you want to make this fight easy, you should make sure all your party members are equipped with ice materia. If you keep hitting it with its weakness, it should stagger quickly and be easy to finish off. If you need an extra advantage, use the Shiva materia.

Winning nets you the Quetzalcoatl Talon. Its only use is in crafting the Windmill Gear, which is then used in the quest for Broden in Kalm. Beyond that, itā€™s another check off the Intel List for Grasslands.
