How to farm Dark Frosting in Destiny 2

Dark Frosting? Sounds delicious.

The Dawning is back in Destiny 2 until January 2, 2024, and we’ve got ingredients to collect if we want to complete the event. One of the harder to find pieces is Dark Frosting, so here’s everything you need to know to get your hands on this presumably delicious ingredient.

How to get Dark Frosting in Destiny 2

As with all of the rare ingredients in the Dawning event, Dark Frosting can only be acquired by killing enemies in a specific way. In this case, you’re going to need to kill foes with a Stasis weapon. Kills with any other weapon type will not count, and even when killing with a Stasis weapon, the drop rate isn’t high.

That’s why I recommend using a Stasis weapon that utilizes unlimited Primary ammo. I had multiple Stasis weapons that use other ammo on hand when getting my Dark Frosting, but the drops aren’t frequent enough for it to be efficient.

I recommend using a Stasis weapon like the PSI Hermetic V. It’s a Pulse Rifle, and with its unlimited Primary ammo, I was able to get 3 pieces of Dark Frosting in less than 15 minutes. I also tried the Riptide gun, but I ran out of special ammo before getting even a single Dark Frosting drop. If you don’t have access to a Stasis weapon with Primary ammo, you might want to take a slower approach to farming Dark Frosting.

Using a special or heavy ammo Stasis weapon is feasible if you’re playing modes like Strikes that have frequent ammo drops. It’ll take longer than farming it in a single spot, but maybe not as long as it would take for you to get a decent Stasis weapon before starting. When checking your inventory for Stasis weapons, look for the purple number and Stasis symbol, like with the PSI Hermetic V pictured above.

Once you’ve got a Stasis weapon that you’re happy with, you need to go farming. My chosen spot is the Trostland area of the European Dead Zone, specifically the spot just south of the church, pictured above, that’s a near constant spawn for bad guys.

You can kill the various enemies as they spawn at this spot, making it a very efficient way to get some Dark Frosting, or indeed, any other ingredient that you’re after, assuming you have the right weapon. I also came here when I was farming Personal Touch, which is undoubtedly more difficult to get than Dark Frosting.

Once you have enough Dark Frosting, it’s time to get baking!
