How to equip a Soul Crystal (Job Stone) in Final Fantasy XIV

The key to greatness

In Final Fantasy XIV, there are nine base classes available to players starting in A Realm Reborn that become 10 different jobs. To make the upgrade from Class to Job, you need to equip a Soul Crystal, the stone awarded after hitting level 30 and completing the Job quest assigned to every Class.

Unfortunately, this step can often be overlooked, especially if you’re not used to the system. With new players starting their journey on Xbox, now is as good a time as any to remind players to equip their Job stone, and a review of how to equip your Soul Crystal and why it’s important.

As a note, you might hear Soul Crystals referred to as Job Stones, Soul Stones, or Job Crystals, but they’re all the same thing.

Regardless of what Class you choose at the beginning of your journey, you won’t stay on it for long. At level 30, you graduate and earn the Class’ respective Soul Crystal, turning Lancers into Dragoons, Archers into Bards, so on, so forth. Without the corresponding Job stone equipped, you’ll miss out on a ton of abilities and stat bonuses, so that’s why players in Duty Finder insist you remedy the issue.

Once you’ve been given your Soul Crystal, open your Armoury Chest, navigating to the last window. This is where Soul Crystals are stored. Open the Character screen and drag the Soul Crystal from the Armoury Chest into the bottom right gear slot. Now, your Job will change to reflect the Crystal.

Equipping a Soul Crystal on Xbox is pretty much the same as it is on any other platform. You’ll need to open up your main menu by pressing Start and then open up your Character screen and your Armoury Chest. Once you’ve done this, you can easily transfer any Soul Crystal into the appropriate slot and your Job with change to reflect which Crystal you have equipped.

Not only does a Soul Crystal unlock the final Job for a starting class, it also unlocks further Job Quests vital for learning new abilities. For instance, White Mages receive Holy after completing a level 45 Job Quest, and you can’t accept the quest as anything but a White Mage. Even if you’re a level 45 Conjurer, you cannot get or use Holy without your Soul Crystal equipped.

Soul Crystals also increase your base stats, making you stronger for the challenges ahead.
