Acing the art of trade in Probably Stolen has no single fixed method, and trading water is certainly the way to go. It was the most consistent way of making a profit during the demo, and it’s no different at full launch.
Despite the changes in version 1.0, trading water largely remains the same. Here’s how it works.

How to test water in Probably Stolen
Everything begins with the Water trader supplying you with testing strips. Use the strips by dragging them into the source of water. Here’s how you’ll determine which water is worth selling. This method is necessary whenever you buy water bottles or containers as part of the trade.

- 99.9%: Pure Water
- 99%-99.5%: High-Quality
- 98%-99%: Basewater
I, personally, avoided anything below 98% purity because the water is unfit for human consumption. However, you can also purify it (but that’s more of an advanced mechanic).
How to purify water in Probably Stolen
Only securing safe-quality water might not be profitable. That’s where Purification comes in (do this for any water container that’s below 99% purity).
- Put a purification pill in the container.
- Put a filter on the pitcher.
- Put the unfiltered water into the pitcher.
- Pour the filtered water into a separate container.

How to use Moisture Farm in Probably Stolen
Purifying water with pills takes a lot of time. That’s where you can use the Moisture Farm. In the demo, I bought it on the fourth day, but you can do it quicker in the full version from my test.
Each Moisture Farm produces 1l of ghostwater daily. Get more, and you’ll have a steady supply of water. However, this water is dirty and unfit for sale (unless you choose to scam by changing the labels).
Hence, you’ll still have to filter the produced water before you can sell it.
How to soften water in Probably Stolen
There’s a certain threshold beyond which your filters will stop working efficiently. Then, you can use the following tools to enhance your filtration system.

| Tool | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Water Purification tablet | Reduces chemical and microbial contaminants down to 1.54%. |
| UV Lamp | Removes microbes. |
| HydraTex Water Purifier | Removes all contaminants equally up to the base water quality. |
| Water Purifier | Reduces all contaminants slightly, but not very efficient. |
As of writing, I have yet to test the more advanced methods because I haven’t unlocked the tools. Expect to see a few updates in the coming days.
