You can divorce your spouse by visiting the Mayor’s Manor, interacting with a special book, and paying 50,000g. This process takes a bit of getting used to, especially if you haven’t done it before, so here’s a full breakdown of how to get it done.

  • Visit the Mayor’s Manor. Lewis’s house can be found near the east end of Pelican Town, right up against the left edge of the river that runs through this area. The house is a light tan color with blue accents and a dark brown roof. It also has a green truck parked out front and a small garden bed attached to the house.
  • Locate the divorce book. You can find this item near the west end of the home, right in between the Town Ledger book that’s used to share and separate funds in multiplayer mode and the Lost & Found Box. It’s a small brown book sitting on a table next to a green one.
  • Interact with the book. Approach the book and click on it to open up the divorce option pop-up.
  • Pay the fee. You need 50,000g to pay the divorce fee, so if you don’t have this much, you’ll have to return to this task at a later time.

Can you cancel a divorce in Stardew Valley?

If you file for a divorce but end up changing your mind, you can cancel the divorce by visiting Mayor Lewis’s house again before it closes at 10pm on the same day you submitted the request. Interact with the same book you used to file the divorce to cancel it. You get your money back for doing so, and your spouse will never know that you filed, as they are only ever informed of a divorce on the morning after one has been filed.

What happens when you get a divorce in Stardew Valley?

When you get a divorce, your relationship level with your ex-spouse is set to zero hearts, and they receive the special “Ex” title next to their name. Your spouse, their room, and the unique outside area will vanish the morning after the divorce is filed. They also move back to their previous residence.

Your ex will have generally negative interactions with you moving forward. They won’t accept any gifts from you, either. If you wish to have a fresh start with them, you can do so by visiting the Witch’s Hut and presenting an offering of 30,000g to the shrine. Once paid, the “Ex” title will be removed, and all memories of the relationship will be gone, allowing you to date, gift, marry, and otherwise interact with them like you are just meeting for the first time.

There’s plenty more to uncover in Stardew Valley. If you’re not sure what to do next, you may wish to learn all cooking recipes, find the Trash Bear, obtain all Artifacts, get the best Rings, and obtain Blue Grass Starters.
