Starships are at the heart of every No Man’s Sky playthrough. You can’t get anywhere without them, and repairing one is the first thing you’re told to do in almost every game mode. However, their designs have always flipped between stunning, streamlined beauties and abominations that should never be gazed upon. Thankfully, No Man’s Sky’s Orbital Update finally fixes this issue by allowing you to customize your Starship.

To customize your Starship in No Man’s Sky, visit a Space Station and go to the back of the main atrium. This is where all the Starship computers are located. The one on the left will allow you to customize your current Starship with new modules. These won’t change its appearance, though. To do that, you’ll need to build a new one. What this will allow you to do, however, is add modules to your Starship to upgrade its Class or make it more efficient.

To build a new Starship in No Man’s Sky, you must visit a Space Station and then head to the back on the ground floor. Every computer here is part of the Starship customization process, but it’s the middle one you want. This is the Starship building computer, and it’ll let you craft a Starship from scratch using whatever parts you have. While you’ll acquire some parts as rewards for completing various tasks, the best way to get them is by scrapping other Starships.

You can purchase new Starship Parts and modules from the Starship Research Technology Merchant on any Space Station in No Man’s Sky. These guys are always on the ground floor of the Space Station, positioned between the dock and the Starship customization computers. You can buy new modules from this vendor for both Nanites and Units, depending on the quality of what you’re buying.

To sell and scrap Starships in No Man’s Sky, you need to visit the Starship Outfitting computer on any Space Station. Once it’s booted up, select the option to scan for salvageable parts. This will then offer you two options. Either claim the scrap price for your ship or destroy it and extract the customization module. That module can be used to build a new Starship, but consider your options wisely because this will destroy the Starship forever.
