In Helldivers 2, you spend your hard-earned currencies to upgrade your powerful, enemy-stomping arsenal. But what do you do with those Samples found out in the field? You can use them to customize your ship in Helldivers 2, allowing you to make Stratagems even more impactful.
Samples can be found near mission objectives and points of interest during Helldivers 2 missions. They start off as Common Samples but increase in rarity as you raise the difficulty. Be sure to check out our currencies guide for more. The point is, you can use them to upgrade your ship and improve your Stratagems. Here’s how.
Where to spend Samples and customize your ship in Helldivers 2
To customize and upgrade your ship, head over to the Ship Management area against the wall to the left of the Bridge. Ship Management lets you purchase more Stratagems, as well as upgrade them. You don’t have the power to customize your ship’s paint job, sadly. But you can change its name for free in the ‘Destroyer’ tab whenever you like.
Once you’re in Ship Management, scroll over to the ‘Ship Module’ tab. Ship Module is where you exchange Samples for ship upgrades. There are six sections with three upgrades each. You can see how much an upgrade costs by checking the Price section at the bottom right. Some require only Common Samples, while others need a mix of sample rarities to unlock.
Each Ship Module affects a different set of Stratagems. ‘Patriotic Administration Center’, for example, can increase the amount of ammo included with support weapons. ‘Engineering Bay’, on the other hand, can improve the effectiveness of Sentry, Emplacement, and Resupply Stratagems. Unlocking the second upgrade of a module requires the first one to be unlocked, etc.
In time, you’ll be able to squeeze more and more power out of your Stratagems. Don’t sit on your Samples! Collect them, spend them, and keep spreading Managed Democracy.
