Step-by-step way to add friends on Nintendo Switch

There are three main ways to add friends on the Nintendo Switch. To access the menu, select your profile on the top right of the Nintendo Switch home screen. Then, head down to the “Add Friend” section below “Friend Suggestions” and above “User Settings.”

If you have your friend next to you, pick “Search for Local Users.” The system will scan for another Switch. You can then add them once they’re found.

Second, you can add people you just played with in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 3. It even counts everyone that you encounter in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, who acts as a ghost in the game.

Lastly, you’ll be able to search for a friend who has a 12-digit Friend Code. To find it, go back to the Profile screen. It’s also just below “Sent Friend Requests” on the “Add Friend” menu in smaller letters. Type it down and then paste it into the chat with your friend’s Discord or Facebook, etc.

Now that you’ve added your friends, it is far easier to play your favorite Nintendo games with them. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you can set up a lobby. Go to “Battle Arenas,” then “Create Arena.” Then set your game to Private so random people can’t join the lobby. Then, your friends can join by selecting “Join Arena.” Your lobby should show up.

Playing with friends in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is simple as well. Select “Online Play” and then “Friends.” You can then create a room. You will appear in the Friends list section of the screen for them once you begin operating the room. Select your character and kart as normal, and then press either – or +. It will show the Room ID. This can be used even for those who aren’t on your friends list.
