Even before the awards season came to a close, you could probably already tell that Baldur’s Gate 3 would come out on top. Still, it’s only now that we’ve finally seen the Steam awards winners that we can see just how much better than every other game Larian’s epic fared.
It’s nearly impossible to tally just how many awards a game of this magnitude has won. I can’t even count all the smaller shows and outlets dishing out awards, let alone count all the awards that will inevitably fly under even Larian’s radars. But we gotta give it an honest try at counting the most important awards that this masterpiece of a game has claimed.

- Best Performance, for Neil Newbon as Astarion
And, despite an acceptance speech marred by a weird directorial decision that forced Swen Vincke, the game’s director, to wrap it up while attempting to honor developers who died during the development of the game, we cannot forget that it also won Game of the Year.

Two awards will always look like too little for such a massive game — even if one is game of the year — but that’s likely because Steam’s internal awards policies only allow a game to leave the gauntlet with two awards max.

The DICE showcase sent Baldur’s Gate 3 home with five awards, adding a notable series of accolades to its already hefty pile. Upon accepting the awards, director Michael Douse and head of production David Walgrave also took a moment to speak to the grim state of industry layoffs and a quick dig at Embracer’s absolutely bizarre comment on shareholder interest.

And perhaps most importantly of all, BG3 also won big right here. Even though it didn’t win the overall Game of the Year award, which went to The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, it won our Best PC Game of the Year award, and it also landed on the number-one spot of Eric Van Allen’s favorite games of the year list.
Now all that is left to do is wait for several move awards shows, including the the GDC awards show in March, and the BAFTAs, which will take place on April 11, 2024.
