How long is the RE4 Separate Ways DLC?

It's $10 for five hours or less

Although the Resident Evil 4 remake patched in Mercenaries DLC for free, Ada Wong’s story, Separate Ways, will cost you $10. Here’s how long it takes to beat the Separate Ways DLC, so you can decide if it’s worth the cash or not.

The Resident Evil 4 remake Separate Ways DLC has seven chapters

Across seven chapters, you’ll control Ada Wong and embark upon a side story that takes place in tandem with the Resident Evil 4 remake storyline. You’ll occasionally interact with Leon during the same moments you saw Ada meddle with your affairs in RE4, and you’ll get up to your own unique nonsense too. Ada controls very similarly to Leon, but with one key difference: she has a grappling hook that she can employ to climb up specific ledges and traverse pitfalls. Plus, the grappling hook can close the gap with its own melee attack (you just need to be standing away from an enemy to trigger it, then use the melee button).

Keep in mind that Separate Ways hits many of the same notes as the Resident Evil 4 remake campaign, including plenty of puzzles, several boss battles, access to The Merchant, and sidequests. There is a decent chunk of things to do if you’re looking for diversions from the main path, including treasure hunting.

The total playtime of the Separate Ways DLC is roughly 3-5 hours

If you rush through the Separate Ways DLC, you can finish it in three hours or less. However, with some side content in tow, an average playthrough of Separate Ways will be somewhere in the neighborhood of four to five hours.

A lot of this extra content comes in the form of collectibles, though if you’re too far ahead, you won’t be able to go back to prior areas and grab them. Instead, you’ll need to acquire them through subsequent playthroughs: including on Professional difficulty (which is unlocked after your first clear).

For reference, all cutscenes are skippable the first time you play through Separate Ways. So if you’re trying to speed through it, you have the option!
