Hover: Revolt of Gamers sure feels a lot like Jet Set Radio in action

It’s still in alpha

The Hover: Revolt of Gamers Kickstarter was able to snag $116,398 back in April of 2014 (disclosure: I backed it), and the project is coming along nicely so far. The alpha version just got a substantial update, so I decided to give it a shot and see how far the development team has progressed. For such a small budget and a team of three, I’d say they’ve come a long way.

You can definitely tell it’s still an earlier build, but the core gameplay is there. The tutorial teaches you pretty much everything you need to know, and from there, unleashes you into the game’s open world environment (that starts at roughly 3:45 in the video above). Movement is fast and fluid, and although the environments don’t seem quite as imaginative as Jet Set Radio‘s, I get the exact same rush flitting about the city.

I have a good feeling about this one. Currently this build is about half complete, and features solo and multiplayer play. Expect our full thoughts at launch.
