Keeping expectations in check, or at least attempting to
Even without Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s name so prominently attached to The Evil Within, I like to believe that I’d still be this eager to see more of the upcoming PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and next-gen title. There’s a lot to live up to, after all.
The debut trailer was suitably intriguing, and more than that, it’s lovely to see survival horror on such a scale. Not that a loftier budget will necessarily make this better or worse off — it’s just something you don’t frequently see. In this first round of screenshots, we’re shown where some of that money has gone.
If Tango Gameworks can achieve “the perfect blend of horror and action” that it’s striving for, this could be the boost console-bound horror titles have needed. I began this console generation with Condemned: Criminal Origins; how great would it be to dive into the next cycle with something like The Evil Within? Hopefully great. Hopefully.
