We can, unsurprisingly, expect more from Aloy and the Horizon universe

Guerrilla Games casually drops Horizon 3 reference

Fans of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon universe, as well as its irrepressible hero, Aloy, will be pleased to hear that we can expect much more from the robot-filled dystopia, following comments from the studio that casually reference (at least) one more title in the visually-stunning adventure series.

The comments came following a shake-up of Guerrilla staff, which sees studio director and executive producer Angie Smets leave the developer to take up a new role as PlayStation Studios’ Ā head of development strategy. In Smets’ absence, production director Joel Eschler and general manager Hella Schmidt will receive promotion within studio ranks, while current studio director Jan-Bart van Beek will retain their role at Guerrilla, overseeing all current and future projects.

In comments discussing Smets’ departure, Guerrilla notes that it “[has] full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project.” essentially confirming the continuation of the franchise. This news will hardly come as a surprise to anybody in this franchise-heavy gaming zeitgeist, but it’s still a nice bit of security for franchise fans.

Most recently, Horizon Forbidden West received a new expansion in the form of DLC Burning Shores, which sees Aloy travel to a dystopian (but somewhat familiar) new locale, where she meets new friends, encounters terrifying new Machines, and takes up arms with a selection of new weaponry. Despite a battalion of review bombs ā€” derived mostly for the most eye-rolling of reasons ā€” the DLC has been mostly well-received by both critics and Horizon fans.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PlayStation platforms. Burning Shores is available on PS5 only.
