Hopes crushed: NYT screws up, full DS downloads not coming to the Wii

We know you guys were excited about the prospect of downloading full Nintendo DS games straight from the Wii, but guess what? What the New York Times meant to say is that you can do that with the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3. Their bad.

As Kotaku points out, the article in question attempts to break news records for most factual and spelling errors in one story. The original article is corrected four times, including spelling Nintendo president and CEO Reggie Fills-Amay Reggy Fees-Amee Reggie Fils-Aime’s name wrong on more than one occasion.

Nintendo weighs in, stating (without quetion) that “the statement that complete Nintendo DS games will eventually be able to be downloaded into the device via a wireless connection with the company’s Wii game console is incorrect.” They do offer hope about demo downloads “in the future,” but said demos would be erased once the system is shut down.
