HMV says MGS4 360 listing was a mistake, sorry they ’caused such a stir’

Not surprisingly, retailer HMV has admitted that an online pre-order listing for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Xbox 360 was a mistake by its online team.

It seems the error was due to an employee who displayed so much “enthusiasm” that he couldn’t help himself from listing the title, even going as far as to make up a fictitious release date. What he actually meant to do, an HMV spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz, was to ask customers if they wanted to receive an alert if the title was one day available.

So there you have it — a simple mistake, one that anyone could have made. And I’d say that about cinches it: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is only coming out on the PlayStation 3. We’re clear on that, right?

Solid Snake on the 360? Oh, you kids and your wild pipe dreams! That’s just crazy talk.
