It must be a horrifying moment to look at one’s daughter and be unable to recognize your child’s face underneath a slathering of gold jewelry and lipliner. This is the fate that befalls “chongas“, a slang term that originated in suburban Miami to describe a teenage girl straddling the line between gangster and hooker. Let me tell you, it’s a classy breed.
Don’t want your child to fall into this insidious pitfall and start bringing home potential purse snatchers? Maybe you should introduce her to Hip Chicas, an online game specifically geared at promoting a fun experience for tween latina girls. Lazaro Fuentes, CEO of the Hip Chicas brand, describes the game’s goal as “avoiding negative common themes such as bling-bling, shopping or lipstick.” I think you mean “lipliner”, Ms. Fuentes.
The game allows players to follow the adventures of five Latina girls in a touring band. Each stop they make focuses on “Helping to Improve the Planet” in some way, shape or form. The game recently launched into beta, and while it may be a challenge to draw an unruly daughter’s attention to such an wholesome adventure, you can always tie her to the computer by one of those gigantic earrings and force her to play.
