A year later, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has accepted an award at The Game Awards 2016, this time for being an “industry icon.” His acceptance kicked off this year’s show, with a very emotional Geoff Keighley recounting his failed attempts to hand him the winged trophy.

“Last year, I thought I lost everything,” said Kojima, referencing his messy split with long-time employer Konami post-Metal Gear Solid V. “But I didn’t lose anything, thanks to all of you.”

And thank you, Kojima, for whatever the sweet hell Death Stranding is shaping up to be.
