Here’s hoping the gameplay is as good as the visuals

Hyper Light Drifter was one of the rare successful Kickstarters from 2013 that wasn’t a reboot or a known developer looking for funds. Its eye-catching art style was a big draw and little by little we’re getting more info about the game. Designer Alex Preston has written a post on the PlayStation Blog about how Hyper Light Drifter is going to play, calling it “brutal and never unfair.”

It sounds like the game isn’t going to throw lots of easy enemies at you just so you can mow them down — it’s much more thoughtful than that. “Some enemies dodge projectiles, others deflect attacks, some (the poison wolves) attack you and vulnerable enemies as a pack,” Alex explains.

“We even have enemies that command weaker types in order to gain an advantage.” I’ve been hoping that Hyper Light Drifter will play as good as it looks and a game with a more thoughtful and tactical approach has always suited my play style, so I’m really keen to get my hands on the finished game. Roll on summer.
