Here’s a look at the world of the new Thief game

I’m eagerly anticipating Eidos Montreal’s reboot of Thief but I’ve had my concerns. Despite the studio’s good work with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I worried about how the team would follow on from Thief: Deadly Shadows. This stylish new trailer shows off the the atmosphere of The City, the location where Garrett, master thief, plies his trade.

It seems that the new Thief is moving on from the quasi-medieval setting of previous games to something that looks almost Dickensian in style. The fanatical Hammerites and Pagans are nowhere to be found and instead is an atmosphere that is similar to Dishonored’s Dunwall; a once noble city brought to its knees thanks to corruption and disease.

Of course, the things that make a city — the characters, the strange hidden places and secrets — will only be discovered once we start playing Thief next year. I remain cautiously optimistic.
