Helldivers 2 overtakes Steam Deck to become Steam’s currently top-selling game

For now...

It seems as though, since releasing at the tail end of last week, Helldivers 2 has become the new flavor of the month (Palworld, who?). Evidently, Arrowhead Studios’ new third-person shooter must be doing something right, judging by where it is on the Steam charts.

A quick look at the Top Sellers list shows that Helldivers 2 is currently at the number one spot. This might not be much of a surprise, considering it’s new and popular. However, the fact that it’s knocked the Steam Deck off the spot is pretty interesting.

The Deck itself typically remains steadfast, dominating the chart and keeping even the most hyped-up releases at bay. Of course, who knows how long it will stay there.

It’s a slippery slope

We’ve seen this in the past, as well. Palworld also took over the Steam Deck’s position as the head honcho of PC gaming, but struggled to keep the top spot. Given this, it probably won’t be long before Valve’s mobile gaming device reclaims its place.

That said, it says much about Helldivers 2‘s quick rise to fame and how well it’s been performing over the weekend. It has a Steam review score of “Mostly Positive,” which is pretty good, though some issues with crashing are probably holding it back slightly.

At the time of writing, the game has over 101,000 concurrent players, according to the most recent data from SteamDB. It also achieved a peak of 155,926 players recently. While this pales in comparison to Palworld (sorry to keep pitting the two against each other!), Arrowhead’s new release can at least enjoy the ride while it lasts.
