Helldivers 2: How to kill a Bile Titan

The bigger they are...

The Bile Titan is akin to the general of the Terminid army in Helldivers 2. It’s a massive beast, towering over everything on four tall legs. There are multiple ways to kill the Bile Titan in Helldivers 2, one of which is quick. Sometimes.

The most widely accepted “best method” to kill a Bile Titan in Helldivers 2 is to take a Railgun and shoot the damn thing in the mouth. There are concerns over the strategy, though.

With the recent nerfs to the Railgun, it has proven effective, though it’ll take a few extra, well-placed hits to take the behemoth down. Secondly, you or someone on your team must have the Stratagem weapon, which is unlocked at level 20.

The fastest way to kill a Bile Titan in Helldivers 2

For many divers, there’s really only one surefire method to kill a Bile Titan in Helldivers 2: shoot it with a Railgun in Unsafe Mode.

How to kill a Bile Titan, the fast way:

  • Charge a Railgun shot until the Bile Titan opens its mouth to spew acid
  • Fire into the open mouth
  • Repeat step two until the head explodes (this can take two shots or all of them, depending on your timing and aim)

It’s also debatable whether or not you need to wait for it to open its mouth at all. You can get the Bile Titan to a point where it no longer spews acid, but its head seems to be just as vulnerable. Charging the Railgun in Unsafe mode doesn’t seem to move the needle either way.

All I do know is that the method can actually work; I’ve seen it for myself. A fellow Helldiver was fighting a Bile Titan and managed to kill it with two or three Railgun shots to the head. Its melon popped with a small shockwave, and it crumpled. I managed to do it myself in four shots a few games later.

For now, the best way to take down the Bile Titan is Railgun shots to the face. But a good, old-fashioned pummeling can work as well.

Other ways to take out a Bile Titan

The Bile Titan is a ‘Heavy’ enemy in the ‘Elite’ class. And like the Charger, it’s coated in heavy carapace that acts as armor, save for a couple of squishy spots. The Bile Titan has a soft, green belly that can take damage from most arms.

It has two attacks based on distance. When close, the Bile Titan will stomp on you with its massive legs. If you’re out of reach, it spews a jet stream of green bile that can kill you in seconds. That’s why you’ll want to target its belly to stop it from firing acid.

You can also take out a Bile Titan by using medium and heavy weapons to inflict damage. After a while, you can destroy its belly and the Bile Titan will lose its ability to fire acid.

Consider using these Support Weapons to kill the Bile Titan:

  • Railgun
  • Recoilless Rifle
  • Autocannon
  • Grenade Launcher
  • Anti-Materiel Rifle
  • Arc Thrower

Against its armor, the EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank and FAF-14 Spear can work well. But since its weak points are either the fleshy bits or face, you should focus on getting the Railgun once you reach level 20. Heavy Support Weapons like the Railgun will also stun a Bile Titan, which can stop it from spewing acid.

The sleeper hit from this list has to be the Arc Thrower. It penetrates armor and can be fired from a considerable difference. The only drawback is that it can result in friendly-fire killings or prioritize smaller fries beneath it. You’d only want to use this weapon if the Bile Titan is by itself.

The best Stratagems for killing the Bile Titan are:

  • Eagle 500kg Bomb
  • Orbital Laser
  • Orbital Railcannon Strike
  • Orbital 380MM HE Barrage
  • Rocket Sentry
  • Mortar Sentry
  • Patriot Exosuit

Other Stratagems that aren’t listed here have reportedly worked for other players, but the ones here have been more consistent overall.

You can also take down a Bile Titan using a sentry and some good planning. A Mortar or Autocannon sentry both do work against the beast, but you’ll need to drop them outside of its acid range.

In one of the more recent patches, we have unlocked Exosuits. They’re equipped with a heavy machine gun and rocket launcher. Three to four blasts with its rockets can take down a Bile Titan with ease. If you’re ever in a pinch and need some fast clearing, this glass cannon can be just what you need to turn the tide in battle.

Can you kill a Bile Titan with a Hellpod?

Sadly, killing a Bile Titan with a Hellpod doesn’t seem like a good idea unless it has already taken significant damage or has an exposed back. Body shots don’t seem to faze it, meaning your only shot to take it down during a drop is by clipping it in the head. It’s a lot to ask from a human cannonball.

Indeed, there is more than one way to kill a Bile Titan in Helldivers 2. But so far, the best method is apparently using a Railgun to shoot it in the face. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to wipe the smirk right off it.
