This week sees the Evolution Championship Series (Evo) return in a physical capacity for the first time in three years. Alongside the greatest fighting game players in the world — duking it out for prize pools, trophies, and bragging rights — fans can also look forward to news, reveals, and other tidbits pertaining to the current crop of competitive scrappers.

Arc System Works, the veteran fighting game developer behind great titles such as Dragon Ball FighterZ, BlazBlue, DNF Duel, and Guilty Gear, has announced that it will be hosting a special presentation on the first day of Evo, offering tournaments attendees the opportunity to play games and bag cool merch, while audiences at home can enjoy exhibition matches, competitions and giveaways, and various other live stream events.

The day will be highlighted by a special panel presentation looking at “The Past, Present, and Future of GuiltyGear.” Headed up by series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari, the development team will discuss the quirky fight franchise — sharing stories, spotlighting unused concept material, and fielding questions from members of the GG community. The panel will conclude with non-specific “news” regarding the second season of Guilty Gear Strive, so here’s hoping that we get a character reveal or two, along with a date for the previously teased crossplay beta.

The Arc System Works Guilty Gear Evo panel kicks off Friday, August 5, at 10:00 PT / 13:00 ET / 18:00 BST. You can check out the action over on the official Evo Twitch channel. The weekend promises all sorts of exciting news pertaining to the world of fighting games, and we’ll be sure to cover as much as we can right here on Destructoid.

Evo 2022 takes place between August 5-7 at the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
