Guardian Heroes for XBLA will include original version

The classic Sega Saturn game by Treasure, Guardian Heroes, is coming out at the end of Summer and it seems like a lot of you are excited for this based on the announcement post. Well prepare to get even happier as the original version will be included on top of the “re-mastered” version. The original version of the game will even be playable right from the start. You can even switch on the fly between the original and updated version during your playthrough if you want to!

The good news doesn’t stop there. Sega was fortunate enough to get Treasure back to work on the first official re-release of a Sega Saturn game by Sega. As a Sega rep told me at the event where I saw Guardian Heroes, the “Saturn code is notoriously difficult to work with so getting that original developer was really key to making this project happen.”

As for the “re-mastered” version, don’t think of it as some kind of horrific port with a HD paint job. In fact, I thought I was looking at the original version of the game until it was pointed out to me it was the updated version. The enhanced version of the game will also feature up to two-player co-op online and offline, a 1-12 player battle mode, Time Attack and more.

All this will be going for 800 MS Points on Xbox Arcade by the end of Summer. It also looks like this will be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360 as Sega didn’t outright deny a PlayStation Network version. Until then, enjoy all the art Sega released which I’m sure will be used as avatars by a number of you.
