Grandia II HD Edition renamed, probably because it doesn’t look very HD

Anniversary Edition coming to PC Aug. 24

Grandia II may be pretty good, but it is not pretty. Not even the recently-announced “HD Edition,” which (based on these screenshots) looks hardly any better than did the original Dreamcast version.

Perhaps cognizant of this, GungHo has “chosen to retitle the game for PC to Grandia II Anniversary Edition in order to properly celebrate Grandia II‘s 15th anniversary,” says CEO Kazuki Morishita.

Kudos to the clever person in the marketing department who decided to de-emphasize the lackluster graphics and instead refocus attention on honoring developer Game Arts and Grandia II‘s legacy.

The classic RPG is coming to Steam on August 24 for $15 (down from $20 for a limited time).
