As our Danny DeVito watch continues

All that talk about an upcoming live-action Pokémon movie hinged on a walkin’, talkin’ Pikachu wasn’t a fever dream. It’s moving forward, and we now have a slightly better idea of what to expect. As reported by Deadline, Legendary Entertainment has locked in Rob Letterman to direct Detective Pikachu, with Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) penning the script.

Letterman’s prior credits include Goosebumps, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Shark Tale, so, yeah. He’s also directing an adaptation of Captain Underpants, a movie whose existence I’m only now learning of (though I suppose it was only a matter of time before that property made it to the big screen).

Detective Pikachu has my interest, but it’s more morbid curiosity than genuine enthusiasm for family-friendly entertainment. That said, knowing who’s writing the screenplay, there could be something here.
