Normally it’s $14.99

When Golf Story was released in September 2017, folks expected big things from Sidebar Games’ follow-up. While Sports Story didn’t deliver, the original is still perfectly preserved on the Switch eShop, and worth checking out. Like now, during its current sale for five bucks.

If you haven’t played it yet, the summary does a pretty good job of getting the point across:

Golf Story combines the sheer excitement of golf with a serious story that plays out over 8 different courses. Play the story of a golfer who is forced to give up all that he holds dear for one last shot at accomplishing his dreams. But all is not so simple in the world of golf. To best today’s players you have to be able to keep up with them both on and off the course.”

The marriage of unconventional retro sports genre flair and RPG elements really took to the gaming community at large and helped propel Sidebar Games into the limelight. Golf Story reinvented the retro sports genre in a way that felt natural, which helped cement it as a modern classic.

Sports Story didn’t make nearly of a splash in the zeitgeist, but you can still get the original for five bucks on Switch if you want. You have until April 26, 2023 at 11:59PM PT to make your choice!
