Go on, watch Nintendo’s full GDC talk on Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I’m taking a break from the game to watch this (send help)

By now, you’ve hopefully seen and enjoyed some of the fun Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild production anecdotes to come out of Nintendo’s 2017 Game Developers Conference presentation. A couple of them — the team’s delightfully lo-fi prototype and convention-bucking experiments with outrageous character designs and story concepts — popped up right here on this site.

Now you can see that full hour-and-a-half GDC session for yourself.

Essentially, it’s game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, art director Satoru Takizawa, and technical director Takuhiro Dohta talking in great detail about what went into Breath of the Wild and why. This is the type of brain-picking access we don’t always get out of Nintendo, and it is just lovely to take in.

There’s even more behind-the-scenes footage on the way. Tomorrow, March 14 at 6:00am Pacific, Nintendo will put out a three-part video series detailing the making of Breath of the Wild.

I suspect there will be some overlap, but I’m down to watch this, too.
