Go behind the scenes with Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Nobody suspects a thing, except the devs

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is peppered with some of the most ridiculous scenes I’ve ever seen in my 22-odd years of gaming, and that’s why I love it. To celebrate its launch on PS4, PlayStation and Young Horses have released a behind the scenes video detailing the story of how the game came to be. Spoiler: It’s a whole lot of silliness.

Accompanied by the ridiculously catchy theme song (download it here), Phil Tibitoski, president of Young Horses, details the humble beginnings of the covert octopus and how the game came to be. It’s a little more lighthearted than most “developer diary” videos and didn’t make me cringe, except for when a woman asked Phil if he’s ever played Octodad. I can’t help but think that was staged, but that Octodad costume was too cool for school.

In all seriousness, it’s refreshing to see others who share my thoughts on day-to-day boredom and stagnancy, with Octodad having been borne from mundane living. It gives me hope for more silly and surreal projects in the future.
