‘Geguri’ becomes the first woman to be signed to the Overwatch League, as the Shanghai Dragons make big moves after an 0-10 start

Overwatch League just completed its first quarter

The Overwatch League just finished “Stage 1,” its first quarter of matches, and we can now clearly see how each team stacks up against one another. While no one necessarily towers over anyone else, the New York Excelsior, led by a well-rounded roster that includes Dong-guy “Mano” Kim and Do-hyeon “Pine” Kim are in the lead with a 9-1 record.

Following them are the Houston Outlaws, London Spitfire, Los Angeles Valiant, and Seoul Dynasty with 7-3 records vying for the top spot. A few teams weren’t that well off by the end of Stage 1 though, with the Florida Mayhem clocking in at 1-9, and the Shanghai Dragons ending up with 0-10.

Clearly as a result of their slow-going start, the Dragons are now investing in four new players — He “Sky” Junjian, Kim “Geguri” Se-Yeon, Lee “Fearless” Eui-Seok, and Chon “Ado” Gi-Hyeon. You may remember Geguri from the countless articles that have popped up in this past year describing her as “God Zarya,” a tank player (she also now plays D.Va competitively) that also happens to be the first woman to be signed to an Overwatch League team.

The Overwatch League’s signing window just began this month, and we’ll be seeing more trades and signings as we head into Stage 2, which will run from February 21 until March 24.
