GameStop still needs to fill 2.3 million PS4 pre-orders

A third of PS Plus subs came in the last 7 days

GameStop sold its entire stock of PS4 systems at launch, and then moved through an extra allocations from Sony. But 2.3 million customers on their “first to know” list are still waiting for the shiny new system, reports Gamesindustry.biz.

This news came from a post-earnings call, as did an interesting stat on GameStop’s PlayStation Plus sales. A full one-third of the PS Plus subscriptions GameStop has sold in their lifetime  were sold in the last seven days. “And we’ve been selling them for years,” GameStop president Tony Bartel noted.

The same call revealed that GameStop has sold 80 percent more PS4s in one week than the total number of PS3 systems they sold in 2006.

The Xbox One is also on track to outpace the Xbox 360. GameStop’s reserved numbers already exceeds the number of Xbox 360s sold in 2005 by 15 percent.

Even with the large number of customers still waiting for their PS4 systems, it seems that GameStop helped Sony to have a really good week.
