Games of the week for 07/04/10: American justice edition

Recommended Videos

It’s July 4, the day we celebrate America doing some stuff to some people a number of years ago because of reasons. In honor of this great day, what could be more Patriotic than a classic scene from Metal Wolf Chaos? Richard Hawk is the most American man that ever did America. Long live the USA!

Also, videogames. If you’re bored of watching fireworks, why not read our stupid words?

Aziz: I’ve been testing the comfortability levels with the Sumo Couple Bean Bag and during my test, I finally played No More Heroes on the Wii. Within five minutes I fell in love with everything this game represents. Suda 51 is my hero. And I want Travis Touchdown’s jacket so bad.

Also been playing Perfect Dark for XBLA and remembering the good times I used to have with that game back on the Nintendo 64.

Lingen: The World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta has FINALLY ARRIVED, and outside of that the rest of the world does not exist! I’ve been playing with Jonathan Ross, Ashley Davis, and soon to be Nick Chester, and I’ve got to tell you; this changes everything… ALL OVER AGAIN.

Razak: God of War III. It’s good, in case you needed to know my opinion of it.

Chester: Finished Singularity this past week, and should have my review up by Monday. Short story on that is that I really enjoyed it, and have to wonder why Activision mostly ignored it; if I were the folks at Raven, I’d be pretty annoyed.

Speaking of original Activision IPs, I also decided to try to play Prototype, a game that I didn’t get a chance to really play last year when it was released. What a major disappointment, in that the game seems to revel in being as frustrating and annoying as possible, with dozens of “find these things, destroy them” missions while dumping hundreds of enemies in your general direction. It’s less really difficult as it seems “unbalanced” and “obnoxious.” I don’t think I’ll be finishing that one.

I’ve also started to play Death Spank, but I don’t think I’m allowed to say anything about that yet.

Ross: Like Husky, Cataclysm and WoW in general have consumed my life.

Sterling: Beat Crackdown 2 for review, which will hit at 8am Central tomorrow. Also finally got round to finishing House of the Dead: Overkill, which was amazing, and decided to pick up House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return for good measure. Started playing Muramasa, which is cool but the controls kind of suck using remote/nunchuck input. Also, Sin & Punishment 2.

On the PC I played APB which was going to be for review but it might be best for all concerned if I just don’t bother. What a dreary game. Oh, and I took major advantage of the War for Cybertron double XP weekend. Maxed out Scientist for the win!

PerLee: Husky, you got back into WoW? I am disappointed. Your life is gone. 🙁

As for me, I’ve been moving, and rocking sessions of SSFIV, L4D2, BlazBlue, Geometry Wars 2, Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports Resort, Columns III, and I think that’s it. Been fun!

Tolentino: Argh! I’ve got an invite to the Cataclysm beta too, but I don’t have WoW! Right now a couple of MMO-playing friends of mine are furiously researching ways for me to somehow transfer it to them instead.

Being abroad this month has left me with only a Wii and a PSP, I’ve been playing a bunch of Trauma Team. It’s pretty much the zenith of all the “medical games” that have ever come out. Any other game attempting to go after it will have a hell of a lot to surpass. I honestly don’t know how Atlus will be able to top it. Maybe some kind of PlayStation Move-compatible version? Not to bash on Kinect, but playing a surgery game without a controller of some kind in-hand would feel kind of weird.

Also, my sister recently built a gaming-capable PC, and I’m hard at work filling her hard drive with gifted games off of Steam

Grim: Doom II and Osmos. Yeah.

Concelmo: Finally finished Trauma Team! Not that this is a criticism, but that game is LONG! Really cool story, though. I liked the game a lot.

Once I completed Trauma Team, I finally got to start Red Dead Redemption, which I had been anxiously waiting to play. Love it so much! It may be Rockstar’s best open-world game yet. I loved Grand Theft Auto IV, but this game has it beat on so many different levels. Yeah, it’s a little glitchy at times, but there are so many things that make up for those hiccups.

Gutierrez: Playing an unhealthy amount of Redux HD on my iPad. I figured this deep in the game some genius developer would develop a Rez clone and utilize the touch screen in all the right ways. With some digging, I stumbled upon Redux HD, which is a neat 2D side scrolling shooter that encourages well timed shots and multipliers to different beats and melodies which then composes a full electro track. It’s still not exactly the perfect Rez clone that I was looking for, but it’s doing an excellent job of quenching my thirst until Child of Eden drops.

Please feed Child of Eden and DeuxEx into my rectum at the exact same time. Kthxbai

Holmes: My guess is that the next Trauma Center game will be on 3DS, and that it will be amazing. 3D psychic heart surgery would be amazing.

As for me, I played Sin and Punishment: Star Successor for review. I gave it a 8.5, but in my heart, it was really a 10. I know there are things wrong with it, but personally, I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s like when your girlfriend has gaps in her teeth, and your heart you still feel that she’d make a great super model, but at the same time, you know in your mind talent agents probably wouldn’t hire her for anything other than closed-mouth underwear work.

It’s like that.

Also picked up an Atari Lynx (for $40) and a copy of Data EAst Arcade Classics for the Wii. Pretty intense nostalgia trips all around. The Lynx has quite a few games that still hold up today. Todd’s Adventure in Slime World is an under-appreciated masterpiece.
