Games of the week for 04/25/10: Riverleap edition

Recommended Videos

I have been obsessed with Riverleap. The game was free on iTunes this weekend, and it is amazing. It’s not actually very good, considering the graphics are weird and confusing, the gameplay is based on pure luck and death comes frequently, yet there’s something intangibly wonderful about it. Very weird, very Southern, very fun, even though it shouldn’t be.

Other games were played. Check ’em out after the jump.

Holmes: Played Uncharted 2 for a few hours, I don’t think I’ll ever finish it. Ended up playing No More Heroes 2 again instead, which I just got back from a friend. What a great game.

And just before writing this, I got home from Gamestop with Monster Hunter Tri, Pikmin New Play Control, Alone in the Dark, and Counter Force, all on the Wii, and all for less than $100. Shopping for Wii games can provide the same mix of fun and trouble as buying mysterious, potentially rancid off-brand penny-candy, the kind you can only find in family run candy stores. You never know what the hell this stuff is going to taste like, and the fact that it might kill you actually ads to the fun.

Also played a bunch of other crap, but I can’t remember what at the moment.

Carnage: Killing “Army Of Deuce” And my girlfriend is rocking Aion!

Chester: Been traveling a bit leading up to E3, and playing fewer games than usual, but seeing quite a few. Can’t talk about many, but Bethesda had us out to Las Vegas to check out their line-up, and you can probably guess what they showed us. More on that next week.

Also received preview code of Obsidian’s Alpha Protocol, and more on that later (again, can’t talk about it just yet).

Outside of that, I played a bit of Plants vs. Zombies HD on the iPad during my travels. It’s, as expected, pretty great on the iPad, with crisp visuals and gameplay that lends itself really well to the big touch screen.

Ross: Mostly Super Street Fighter IV, with a tiny break to try out The Passing in Left 4 Dead 2.

Sterling: Loads of stuff on my iPod. NOVA has been a mainstay, along with Doom II RPG, Chaos Rings, Riverleap and a load of other stuff. Also played plenty of “The Passing” in Left 4 Dead 2. Great little campaign, although as usual, the promised story elements were a little disappointing. It just felt like the original survivors barely mattered at all. Still, a tight campaign with some great Versus play.

Sarkar: I finally started up the single-player campaign of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 after spending over 45 hours playing multiplayer. The story is a pretty poor excuse for B-Company to go on an adventure, but I’m actually enjoying the experience so far (I’m almost done with it). I also played more MLB 2K10 — my created player had a perfect game going through six innings before it got broken up with a single in the seventh!

On Wednesday, I went to an EA Sports press event in New York City, where I saw/played Madden NFL 11 (preview coming tomorrow morning), NCAA Football 11, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 on the Wii (there’s mini-golf this year!), NBA Jam (holy crap, is that fun!), and EA Sports Active 2.0. Good times!

Razak: Deadly Premonition.

Life complete.

Zimmerman: I still haven’t overcome my inability to stay awake playing Deadly Premonition, so my progress is still creeping along very slowly. Used the PS3 a bit this weekend, playing some Minis and PSN titles. Monsters (probably) Stole My Princess — which I downloaded on Y0j1mb0’s advice — is a phenomenal value at $4.99, provided you like arcade-style platformers with an emphasis on doing perfect runs. Very addictive and fun.

Also, blew out the cooling fan on my Wii at some point this week. Good times.

Tolentino: I finally broke down and bought a wired Xbox 360 controller to use with some of my more console-ish PC games. The PS3 fanboy within me is howling with rage, but hey, it’s Sony’s fault that they don’t write device drivers for their controllers.

And with that controller I’ve been playing Just Cause 2. It’s so much fun, I have to heavily regulate myself to keep from burning out on all that content.

Aziz: We just played Monster Hunter Tri for the last 12 hours straight. It’s 3:30 PM and I just woke up from all that shit.
