Games of the Week for 03/23/08: Zombie Jesus edition

Recommended Videos

My colleague across the pond has been stricken with SARS, mad cow disease, or something of the sort, so I’m taking up the Games of the Week mantle in his stead. While the good Western Christians among you have likely spent the day feasting with family in honor of the resurrection of Jesus, I have been doing nothing of the sort (let’s not get into why; I’d like to keep the religion debates out of this).

Instead, I’ve been reacquainting myself with my PS3, which I was estranged from this past week. I was home for spring break and I didn’t bother to bring it with me, so it just sat in my dorm room folding proteins (yes, I left the window open — I’m not crazy). Yay for using a videogame console for — wouldn’t you know it — playing videogames! How about that!

Meanwhile, many of the other staff members were lucky enough to have some of their own videogames to play during Holy Week. Hit the jump to check out what they were playing in lieu of (or while) praying, and tell us what games you used to fend off your undead Lord. Speaking of which, perhaps Jim couldn’t put this post up because of his blaspheming

Topher: Marvel vs Capcom, some stuff I’m apparently not allowed to talk about, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which is really hard. Just like Jim’s nipples.

Qais: I’ve been playing Bully: Scholarship Edition like it’s a biological imperative as well as making a second attempt at beating those bitches in the final level of Ouendan and occasionally a bit of Starship Titanic thanks to Colette.

Chad: This is my week of being late to the party! Just finished No More Heroes, which was No More Awesome! Wait, that makes it sound like it wasn’t awesome … which it was! No More Suck, maybe? Ugh. Never mind. Also finally got around to playing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which, I have to say, is a superb game. Like, superb going on amazing. And, of course, to satiate the old-school gamer inside me, I topped the week off with some Super Mario World and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, which is really hard. Just like Jim’s nipples.

Topher: Oh, and we both forgot to italicize Jim’s nipples.

Jim: My nipples want you, Topher. They exude a sweet aroma at mere mention of your name.

Topher: Yeah, you might want to see a doctor about that.

Samit: This week was my spring break, and I didn’t bring my PS3 home with me — which apparently caused me to miss out on the best WNW turnout that the PS3 crowd has had in a long time. Go fucking figure. Anyway, I finally got around to seeing Dynasty Warriors 6, because three of my best friends own the game, and let me say this…if I had $60 to spare, I’d spend it on that. Obviously, it looks fantastic, and the new additions (swimming, ladders, etc.) really change the scope of the battlefield.

I’ve also been playing a decent amount of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and while I was expecting to hate it (because I didn’t enjoy Melee), I actually had a pretty good time — but only because I was playing it in a room with three other people. That’s the only way to do it. But then when I played it again, I started sucking at it…because it’s hard for me…like, well, you know.

Dyson: I’ve been playing Space Invaders Extreme on my DS (Fucking awesome! You should not-download it right away.), more Lost Odyssey, a few rounds of Smash Bros. on the N64 (yes, really), and I beat Bionic Commando for the NES last week. It wasn’t the first time I’ve beaten it, of course, but it’s always good to go back and revisit the classics.

Colette: Aw! I spread Starship Titanic to Qais! That does my heart good. Personally I’m just wrapping up my full exploration of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates and also struggling my way through all the sidequests on disc four of Lost Odyssey. Jesus, fuckers, could you make MORE sidequests? After a certain quantity of them I just feel like someone’s errand bitch. Which of course, I am.

I’m also getting close to the end of Puzzle Quest, which unsettles me. It’s going to feel like a death in the family when I don’t have that game to rely on as backup anymore. I guess on to the multiplayer matches. =/

Gameboi: This week has been a little bit of Condemned 2, Vegas 2, and a whole lot of CoD4 and Warhawk. Other than that, I briefly toyed around with Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
