SNK has released the new character trailer for their upcoming sword and sorcery fighter Samurai Shodown. This week sees the return of two of the franchise most memorable characters, All-American ninja Galford and his faithful doge companion, Poppy.

First appearing in the original Samurai Shodown, I distinctly remember how cool and unique it felt to have a fighting game character accompanied by an animal, who could be used in a number of special attacks. Even today, it’s remains a great concept and, as we can see in the new trailer, Poppy is still up for the ruck whenever she is called for in battle.

Galford, the son of a sheriff, traveled to Japan after his father’s murder, learning the art of the ninja in order to become a strong defender of the people. One of SamSho’s few western characters, Galford is a strong believer in truth and justice, honouring the traits that made his father such a distinctive lawman. It’s great to see Galford and Poppy return in this new release, which is currently shaping up to be a fantastic-looking fighter.

Samurai Shodown launches on June 25 for PS4 and Xbox One. PC and Nintendo Switch ports will follow this Winter.
