Each Fighting Style in Gakuran has a specific playstyle and all of them are good with no cases where you shouldn’t use a specific style. That said, some are better than others at what they do or have better moves. Here’s my Gakuran Fighting Style tier list and guide.

All Fighting Styles can be good in Gakuran depending on your height and playstyle but some are better than others in more situations. Check out the ranking reasons for each Fighting Style below. You can consider the A-Tier as a gold standard with the S-Tier having a bit more powerful moves and the B-Tier and C-Tier being either situational or generally weaker.

How to Get Styles: There’s no special requirement to get any Style and they’re all rolled in the Stats screen. To access it, tap on the menu arrow on the left, select Stats, go to the next page of your Stats by clicking Next in the lower right and then press the roll icon next to your Fight Style.

Height (Able to be rerolled)

  • Taller: More damage, more health, larger hitbox, slower attacks
  • Shorter: Less damage, less health, smaller hitbox, faster attacks

S-Tier Fighting Styles

Fighting StyleRanking BreakdownStyle Bonuses
Boxing
Epic
• Boxing is arguably the most powerful style in the game, especially on shorter to medium builds
• From built-in iFrames to chip-damage on blocks, Boxing is incredibly difficult to play against
• You’re forcing enemies to parry or dodge thus controlling the fight
• And then on top of all of that you can spam M2s on parries which is broken once you get good at parrying and are on a good latency server
Untouchable: M2s have iFrames and are uninterruptible
Perfect Reflex: Perfect blocks reduce M2 cooldown by 1 second of what its currently at if on cooldown
Guard Pierce III: 20% block chip damage

A-Tier Fighting Styles

Fighting StyleRanking BreakdownStyle Bonuses
Hakari
Epic
• Hakari with a short to medium build is amazing since you can land combos more easily and get your massive damage buff
• The M2 is even great in base form but the damage from Momentum Rush is just insanely good
• When fighting multiple people charge your Momentum Rush on one person and then sneak attack another for massive burst
• That said, Hakari is pretty hard to get going against experienced players and Wrestling is a difficult match-up so it’s A-Tier, not S-Tier
Powerful: Ragdoll M2s
Momentum Rush: Landing a full M1 combo without being stunned grants a 7s window where your M2 deals 3x damage
Guard Pierce II: 15% block chip damage
Wrestling
Legendary
• Wrestler isn’t overpowered and it’s very skill-based to play as you plan around your R
• Wait until they dash into you as it essentially guarantees your R
• You also have hyperarmor/can’t be interrupted so you only need to mix up your timing against dodges and parries
• Overall, requires much more practice than OP styles like Boxing but it can be quite powerful when mastered
Takedown: M2 grabs opponents and slams them into the ground dealing 1.5x damage
Heavy Hitter III: +15% guardbreak damage (M1/M2)
Guard Pierce II: 15% block chip damage
Resilience V: 55% chance to clash into a grapple
Muay Thai
Rare
• Muay Thai on taller builds is incredibly strong for keeping up constant close-range pressure and damage
• If they block, you’ll both break their posture with Crushing Force and do chip damage with Guard Pierce V
• Requires an incredibly aggressive playstyle and predicting what your opponent will do next so that you can keep the pressure up
• That said, it isn’t S-Tier since experienced players can either space you well or catch you with Wrestler
Powerful: Ragdoll M2s
Crushing Force II: +15% posture damage
Guard Pierce V: 30% block chip damage
Resilience V: 55% chance to clash into a grapple
Basic
Common
• Basic is actually pretty good making Gakuran very F2P-friendly
• You’ll have to learn how to parry well and hit back since that’s how you’ll get the most damage, from counterattacking
• The M1s are great and it works with any height but shorter builds work best for a playstyle similar to Boxing
Counterstrike: +5% damage on your next attack after perfect blocking an attack
Swift Recovery: +15% posture regeneration rate
Guard Pierce II: 15% block chip damage
Resilience II: 25% chance to clash into a grapple

B-Tier Fighting Styles

Fighting StyleRanking BreakdownStyle Bonuses
Capoeira
Legendary
• Capoeira is all about mobility since even tall builds can move quite fast with the Ginga dashes
• Short builds can move incredibly fast
• That said, the damage is mediocre, you have low range and no hyper armor/iFrames
• M2 ragdoll isn’t good for combos since they get up too fast but it’s good for restarting spacing
• This makes Capoeira into a high-skill style for those that have perfect spacing to then counterattack effectively
• If perfect dodges/parries aren’t your playstyle, skip it since it’s not the strongest offensively but more a movement-oriented style for patient players
Powerful: M2 ragdolls the victim on hit.
Heavy Hitter I: +5% guardbreak damage (M1/M2)
Guard Pierce II: 15% block chip damage
Ginga: Dash cooldown is 25% shorter
Karate
Rare
• Karate is just a decent overall style with not a lot of weaknesses but no powerful win condition either
• You get a lot of posture regen so if you play well you’ll never run out
• You also get a bit of chip damage and your M1s and heavy are decent
• Where Capoeira is in B-Tier due to its situational power, Karate isn’t situational but just a middle-of-the-road kind of adaptable style
• There’s just no high-skill reward, not even something simple as Basic getting more damage after parries
Steady Nerves: Perfect blocking an attack increases posture regen by 15% for 3 seconds
Balanced Strike: Landing an M2 refunds 25% of your posture
Guard Pierce II: 15% block chip damage
Resilience II: 25% chance to clash into a grapple

C-Tier Fighting Styles

Fighting StyleRanking BreakdownStyle Bonuses
Slugger
Rare
• Slugger is a noob-stomper with high damage moves, especially with tall builds
• That said, against experienced players that slow heavy attack and the damage amplification on you hurts like hell
• You will struggle a lot against any player that are equal to your skill level or higher because the damage debuff hurts you more than your damage buff hurts them
• It’s just not a good competitive style but when you dodge/parry well and manage to land a few hits it does deal great damage
Unstable: Deal 10% more damage but take 20% more damage
Guard Pierce V: 30% block chip damage
Resilience III: 45% chance to clash into a grapple
