Free-to-play MOBA Dead Island: Epidemic announced

It sounds like parody, doesn’t it? The seemingly unstoppable Dead Island series is moving in a strange new direction with Epidemic, a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game for PC made public today in an oh-so-brief announcement.

The full reveal is happening in a couple weeks at gamescom, but Deep Silver has said that three teams — not the typical two for the genre — will fight to survive. The game is said to “feature all the trademark elements that are part of a Dead Island experience.”

There’s also a bare-bones website with a newsletter sign-up. Not that I’m expecting much of anything from Epidemic, but I’m beyond curious to see what this thing actually looks like.
