Today’s freebie is quite possibly the best game we’ve featured on FAotD! I spotted this “zero-player game” on Touch Arcade and rushed to check it out. I’m not sure what else is free on iTunes today, but it can’t be better than this.
Basically, Godville plays itself and takes the form of a hero’s diary. The hero goes about his business, taking on missions, fighting monsters and leveling up. The rub is that he’s a religious fanatic, driven to do “great and stupid things” in the name of his God. This is where you come in. You’re the Hero’s personal God, and you get to have an indirect influence on his life.
Players can reward or punish their hero, and even speak to him directly. It’s all text-based, but using one’s imagination is part of the fun. Ultimately, GodVille is a fun, funny, incredibly clever little game, and I’m sure I detect a little religious satire as well, which is always welcome. If you’ve ignored my previous App suggestions, at least listen to this one!
